The Screaming Skull~ 8MM movie by Ken Films, 1960's

 Long before the advent of VHS, DVD, Blu Ray, or 4K there existed these primitive little beauties. Reel to reel, and playable on a home projector. While the media itself has become something of a novelty, the artwork on some of these boxes is just amazing. Pure 1960's Americana/Monster Kid goodness.  Castle Films wasn't the sole distributor of these truncated versions of monster movies. Ken Films, who made this one, also produced a lot with really cool box art!

 In 2010, a little customizer decided he wanted to see toys made from favorite films. He titled his "company" Distinctive Dummies. The rest is history.  Originally consisting of he, his wife, and other like minded folks who wanted certain characters to have plastic representation in their collections, DD grew to something of a collector phenomenon. Characters we fans thought would never see the light of day materialized. Wasp Woman, Boy Who Cried Werewolf, Louis Jordan as Dracula, and so many more became realities. Others have copied DD, but DD's reputation is astounding. I have done a lot with them in the role of freelance paint work, and as a creative consultant. These folks are top notch. Although they started their offerings in 1/6 scale, they rarely do 1/6 any longer. Their focus is now mainly "mego" scale. Their 1/6 offerings were usually quite impressive. Verne Langdon Zombie Mask, recast of the original by Dwayne Whitehead.

 Remember the back covers of Warren Publishing Magazines of old? Covers  advertising a mask that everyone wanted: and almost no one actually owned? I am not talking about the Don Post Calendar masks, but rather....The Zombie. Designed and produced by Verne Langdon in 1972, the original release of this mask wasn't exactly a big seller. As years passed, and more people appreciated the mask, interest grew. Yet there was no way to meet the interest with product, because there are only a few original masks in existence.  The only perfect, unrestored one is the property of the Crimson Ghost, and resides in his fantastic mask room. There was an extremely limited version of the mask offered by Kelly Mann, and approved by Verne Langdon and they were swiftly gobbled up, and rarely are seen on the secondary market.
