Don Post Calendar Mask, 1998: Kharis, The Mummy

  In 1998, Don Post Studios re-visited their most famous series of masks; The Universal Monsters series.

 They were (unofficially) called the "Calendar Masks".

Each mask in this re-release was limited to 498 editions. 

Some of the masks suffered from what has been coined as "mask rust". IE, the paint turned brownish over time.

Here is my Lon Chaney Kharis, The Mummy. He suffered from mask rust, so I had him re-painted by Dr. David Lady. Laura Lady added a  fresh mane, and I filled it with some loose texture dust, and hairspray. A little gauze added around the neck made for a finishing touch.

I think he turned out great.

 In 2010, a little customizer decided he wanted to see toys made from favorite films. He titled his "company" Distinctive Dummies. The rest is history.  Originally consisting of he, his wife, and other like minded folks who wanted certain characters to have plastic representation in their collections, DD grew to something of a collector phenomenon. Characters we fans thought would never see the light of day materialized. Wasp Woman, Boy Who Cried Werewolf, Louis Jordan as Dracula, and so many more became realities.
