Vincent Price Presents: 1/6 Figure: Super Limited First Edition by Executive Replicas

When the Vincent Price Presents series from Blue Water began in 2009, a figure was announced to coincide with the comic book's debut. For reasons known only to Executive Replicas, the first edition of the figure barely saw a release. It's so limited, in fact, that most collectors don't even know a first version even exists. Yet exist it does. Here he is.

His original retail was supposed to be a scant $69.99, and he was going to be available through Amok Time Toys. Intended for release in the same collector's packaging as Blacula, Hideous Sun Demon and other collector figures being sold though the retailer, he was to have a stand, and a replica of the debut issue of the Blue Water comic printed to scale for him to hold as an accessory. It didn't work that way though.

The "final" first release appeared as follows: A wood box with burned graphics replaced the AT style box originally solicited, and no comic book replica was included. A sculpt by Tom and Joy Studios was utilized to great effect. This studio knows their Vincent Price.  This figure is different than their later release.

To be frank, this first version has a better likeness to Price than the second, more widely produced edition. The paint, while not Hot Toys caliber, is still quite nice.

I asked them how many of these were estimated to have been produced this way as the "first edition", and was told "likely less than 20".  I will spotlight the second edition in a later post. This thing is rarer than Hen's teeth, and I am glad I managed one. It was so limited, that some folks were even issued a metallic card with their name engraved on it on the very initial (possibly made to order) versions of this first edition.

I was so bummed that he didn't get the comic accessory, that I had one made. The ad on the back is the ad for Vincent Price Shrunken Head Kits, which actually was an ad on the backs of comics in 1975.
